MWDBA Board Nominations – Mark Lowe

MARK LOWE

MWDBA Board Nominations

I have been involved with Baseball for 47 years playing from the age of 13 including many years at as a Division 1, 1st grade player in Victoria and more recently as a Minor League player in MWDBA.

I have been passionate about coaching from a young age and in 1989, I was selected by the Australian Baseball Federation to be one of 24 coaches to participate in the inaugural Level II National Coaching Course conducted at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra over 5 days.

In 1989 along with my lifelong friend, Mick Wearne we founded the Berwick Dodgers Baseball Club and commenced playing at the local High School until we moved to a purpose built facility built by the Berwick City Council in 1996. The Berwick Dodgers are a strong Junior and Senior Club today playing in the DBA Winter competition with over 150 members.

I have been involved with Manly Baseball for the past 12 years as a parent volunteer, club and representative coach, Secretary of the JCC, President of Pittwater Baseball Club and Board Member of the RSA.

I founded my own business not long after moving to Sydney in 1994 with branches in Sydney and Brisbane and divested the business in 2007 to a publicly listed company, BSA Limited. I remained a Director on the public company Board from 2007 until retiring in 2020.

What do I believe MWDBA needs to focus on to ensure ongoing success?

I am a strong believer that many of the fundamental ingredients of a successful business are also needed to run a successful community based sporting organisation like MWDBA.

  • A strategic plan
  • Strong governance framework
  • Strong financial platform
  • A community of engaged and dedicated participants

I believe that Manly has this strong platform and with many legacy issues now behind us the Board can focus on the future and what is really important to grow the game of baseball on the Northern Beaches. Of particular importance to my areas of expertise and interest are improving our infrastructure and improving the volunteer experience at Manly.
