Junior Representative Baseball Program

The Manly Warringah District Baseball Association (MWDBA) Junior Representative Program provides aspiring players with the opportunity to challenge themselves, elevate their game, and compete at the highest levels of junior baseball.

The program is delivered across two representative seasons, offering development pathways for players of varying experience and skill levels. It is designed to help athletes refine their baseball abilities while building confidence, resilience, teamwork and lifelong friendships.

In recent years, the program has enjoyed outstanding success, with Manly teams claiming multiple Rookies, State and National Championship titles. As our program continues to grow, we remain committed to developing not only talented baseball players but also respectful, resilient young people who are proud to represent Manly both on and off the field.

Two Representative Seasons

Representative baseball is structured around two main seasons, on either side of the Summer school holidays.

Premier Cup & Worboys Cup (previously Association Cup & Sydney Cup)

Runs from September to December.

The Premier Cup is designed for the association’s highest-performing players, providing a best-on-best representative competition that challenges athletes to perform at the highest level and features fortnightly Sunday games against other associations, with training sessions held on alternate Sundays throughout the season.

The Worboys Cup complements this pathway by offering additional representative opportunities for a broader group of players to develop their skills and gain valuable game experience in a competitive environment and consists of three double-header competition days, with training sessions held on the alternate Sundays between competition days.

This format provides each team with six games across the season while maintaining a strong focus on player development, participation, and representative experience.

 

Rookies Cup – Zooka

Rookies Cup

The Rookies Cup is a great introduction to representative baseball for players League Ages 8–10. Designed as an entry point into the MWDBA representative pathway, the program provides young athletes with the skills, confidence, and experience to progress to higher levels of representative baseball.

Throughout the program, players are introduced to representative training and competition while learning the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience. The season culminates in an exciting one-day tournament, giving young athletes the opportunity to showcase their development and experience the excitement of representative baseball.

All Stars – State Championships

Runs from February to April

All Stars Program

The All Stars Program showcases MWDBA’s premier representative teams, bringing together the association’s highest-performing players to compete at the pinnacle of junior baseball. Teams compete at the NSW State Championships, with the opportunity to qualify for National Championships held in June/July.

This highly competitive program is designed to challenge and develop players in a high-performance environment, with a strong emphasis on advanced skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and representative excellence. The All Stars Program provides athletes with the opportunity to test themselves against the best talent in the country while proudly representing Manly on the state and national stage.

All Girls Teams

The All Girls Team programs are an exciting and growing part of MWDBA’s commitment to our young female athletes. These teams provide opportunities for young female players to compete in representative baseball in a supportive and empowering environment. Programs and tournaments include the Gaynor Cup, Girls U15 State Championship and other initiatives designed to foster skill development, teamwork and a love for the game.

Premier & Worboys Cup Programs

Overview

Premier Cup & Worboys Cup Program

The Premier Cup and Worboys Cup programs provide exciting representative opportunities for players at different stages of their development. Together, they offer clear pathways for athletes to challenge themselves, develop their skills, and proudly represent MWDBA.

The Premier Cup is the association’s highest level of representative competition, bringing together the strongest players to compete in a best-on-best environment. The Worboys Cup complements this pathway by providing additional representative opportunities focused on player development, increased game experience, and participation.

Both programs emphasise skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence, preparing players to progress through the MWDBA representative pathway while fostering a lifelong passion for the game.

Program Details

MWDBA will be entering teams in the following Baseball NSW events:

  • Premier Cup: U12, U14, and U16 divisions, for higher-skilled players.
  • Worboys Cup: U12 and U14 divisions, providing developmental opportunities for a broader group of representative-level players.

Both programs allow players to experience high-level competition while focusing on skill development and teamwork.

2026 Representative Competition Format

The 2026 season introduces a new structure for both the Premier Cup and the newly reimagined Worboys Cup, providing more opportunities for player development and high-quality representative baseball.

 

Premier Cup

The NSW Premier Series, previously known as Sydney Cup, has been enhanced with some significant changes designed to increase game opportunities, support player development, and further raise the standard of competition.

The Premier Cup will consist of eight rounds, played on a fortnightly basis, from the 13 September to the 15 November, before culminating in a Finals Series held over the 28–29 November weekend.

Worboys Cup

Replacing the previous Association Cup format, the Worboys Cup returns with a fresh identity and an exciting new competition structure focused on participation and player development.

The competition will comprise of three one-day events, with each club playing six games across the season. Teams will compete over three double-header Sundays, playing two games on each match day, with the overall winner determined on a first-past-the-post basis.

All Worboys Cup fixtures will be scheduled during the Premier Cup and Gaynor Cup off-weeks, allowing players and families to maximise their representative opportunities throughout the season.

Trainings

  • Training will occur on alternate Sundays and one weekday.
  • Training location is TBD.

Costs and Registration

  • Cost: $300 per player for Premier and Worboys teams, which includes training sessions and specialist coaching.
  • Additional Items: Players will need to purchase a Manly Rep Helmet.

Trials and Selection

  • Trial Dates:
    • U14s and U16s (Junior & Senior Leagues): 8.00 – 10.30 am, Sat 9 Aug.
    • U12s (Minors. & Majors): 10.30 – 1.10 am, Sun 9 Aug.
    • Note: Please attend the assigned day and time for your age/league level. If you cannot, contact the Reps Coordinator for permission to attend on the other trial day at repcoordinator@manlybaseball.com.au
  • Location: Rat Park (North Narrabeen Reserve), Warriewood.
  • Eligibility:
    • Players must be league age 10 to 16 this season.
    • Players must not wear Manly Representative, Club or Travel Baseball gear during trials. Instead, plain caps or MLB caps are recommended, along with baseball pants, shirts, belts and cleats.
    • Players unable to attend trials due to conflicts should contact the organisers to discuss alternate arrangements.

Rookies Cup Program

Overview

The Rookies Cup Program is a fantastic introduction to representative baseball for young players. It provides a fun, supportive environment where participants can develop their skills, build friendships, and gain confidence while preparing for higher levels of competition.

The program centers around the Rookies Cup Tournament, using the one-day event as the culmination of a month-long player development program. Through regular training sessions, players build their fundamental skills, learn the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience, and experience the pride of representing MWDBA in a representative baseball environment.

Rookies Cup Competition

The Rookies Cup culminates in an exciting one-day Zooka tournament, providing young players with the opportunity to compete, showcase their skills, and experience the excitement of representative baseball in a fun and supportive environment.

Depending on player numbers, skill level, and coach availability, MWDBA may enter teams across up to four division levels, as well as an All Girls division. This flexible structure allows players of varying abilities to participate in meaningful competition while continuing to develop their skills and confidence within the representative pathway.

All Stars Program

Overview

The All Stars program is for MWDBA’s elite players selected to represent Manly at the State Championships. The All Stars season is centered around rigorous training and skill development in the lead up to the tournament. This highly competitive program prepares players to showcase their talents and take their game to the next level, with opportunities for both personal growth and team success. Participating players are expected to bring their best to every session and game, maintain a positive attitude, and support their teammates.

State & National Championships

Teams only proceed to the National Championship tournament if they qualify through the State Championship. Typically the top two teams from the NSW State Championships proceed to Nationals, though an invitation may also be extended to the 3rd place team. The State Championships are held during the April school holidays, with specific locations and dates provided below as soon as that information becomes available. Players and parents should be available for the National Championships if their team qualifies.

Teams who win their respective National Championship (other than the Little League Invitational) earn the opportunity to represent Australia at World Series competitions in the United States.

Training, Schedule & Commitment

    • Sunday mornings: Either training or a game.
  • Player Expectations:
    • Players are expected to attend all scheduled training sessions and games, arriving on time and fully prepared.
    • Commitment to the team, effort, and a focus on continual improvement are key to success in the All Stars program.

National Championship Costs (For Qualifying Teams Only)

  • Travel & Accommodation: Approximately $3,000 per player regardless of tournament location. Baseball Australia assesses the same amount to all players, regardless of where the tournament is held and where players are traveling from.
  • Players stay in accommodation with their team and coaches for the duration of the tournament.
  • The Rep Committee and parents typically endeavor to raise funds to defer a portion of these costs for players, however, this varies by team and season.

All Girls Teams

The All Girls Teams are an exciting and rapidly growing part of the MWDBA representative program, reflecting our ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for female athletes to thrive in baseball.

These teams provide players with the opportunity to compete at a representative level, develop their skills in a supportive environment, and experience the camaraderie and confidence that comes from playing alongside other girls who share their passion for the game.

The introduction and continued growth of these dedicated programs have highlighted the importance of providing clear pathways for female players. As participation continues to grow, MWDBA remains committed to expanding opportunities, fostering player development, and ensuring girls have every chance to reach their full potential while proudly representing Manly.

Girls Rookies Cup

In recent years, the Rookies Cup has included an All Girls competition, with Manly-Warringah proudly fielding a representative team. This initiative provides young female players with an exciting opportunity to experience representative baseball in a supportive and inclusive environment while developing their skills and confidence.

Girls interested in being considered for the All Girls team should register and attend the standard Rookies Cup trial process. Team selections will be made from these trials, providing all players with an equal opportunity to be part of the representative program.

Gaynor Cup

The 2026 Gaynor Cup continues to build on the momentum and success of the past two editions, reflecting the ongoing growth of girls’ baseball across New South Wales. The continued development of the women’s game is paramount to the future of baseball in NSW, and the Gaynor Cup remains a key pathway for developing the next generation of representative athletes.

The competition will feature Under 13 and Under 16 age groups, aligned with the Premier Cup schedule to provide high-level representative competition for girls preparing for the NSW State Championships and the Australian Youth Women’s Championship (AYWC).

The Gaynor Cup will consist of eight rounds, played on a fortnightly basis from 13 September to 15 November, before culminating in a Finals Series held over the 28–29 November weekend. This format ensures players have regular opportunities to compete, develop their skills, and gain valuable representative experience in a competitive and supportive environment.

The Girls U13 State Championship team offers an incredible opportunity for young female players to represent Manly and compete at a high level.
