Intermediate League Update – 16 August 2020
The Manly Intermediate League team had a great day of baseball at Peter Van Hasselt Park in Shalvey on Sunday.
They went 1-1 finishing the day with a huge comeback win over MacArthur in game 2. A massive 5 run rally with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th saw Manly erase a 4 run deficit to win the game 7-6 in walkoff fashion with a 5 run rally.
MacArthur put in a great performance and deserved the win but that’s baseball where it ain’t over until the last out.
There were some gritty calls by 3rd base coach Sean Chivers in the 7th to test the MacArthur defense. It was make or break with Sean waiving runners home putting pressure on the MacArthur defense. It was an unexpected but phenomenal finish to a very good baseball game.
The early game saw Manly defeated by a very strong Hills side 18-4. Hills dominated every facet of the game with strong pitching, batting and fielding. Hills outhit Manly 12-4 and seemingly capitalized on every opportunity. A notable pitching performance from Keirnan Lee kept the game close through 3 innings but the Hills side proved to be too strong on the day.
Manly will play both Hills and MacArthur again next Sunday to wrap up the series. Good luck to the boys and GO MANLY!
